Dabbling with Occultism

This was a response to a post I made on facebook about astrology. Thank you Allen for a great comment and permission to post it on this blog.

Allen wrote: "Don, there probably isn't one of us alive today who hasn't at some time in their life flipped open the newspaper and read his/her horoscope. However, most Christians are unaware that in God's written Word, the Bible, we are forbidden to 'dabble' with Astrology and other forms of the occult. Astrology is a 'mild' form of the occult and a gateway into heaver occultic practices (as many scriptures in the Bible confirm). Many people who start out with reading their horoscope in the daily newspaper eventually progress into having their fortunes told, their Palms 'read', Tea Leaf readings, even on to attempts to contact the dead (most often their own deceased relatives) through the use of 'Mediums'. When one reaches this advanced state, the contact of the dead, they are involved in full-blown occultism. The Bible calls this conjuring up of the dead - "Necromancy." Even though most of us innocently have done this(or so we thought) at times Consider what the Bible says about this kind of Astrology, Zodiac signs, and Astrological charts. Let me just mention a couple of Scriptures that help us. Deuteronomy 17:2-5 says, "If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the Lord gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the Lord your God in violation of His covenant, and contrary to my command has worshipped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars of the sky, and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, take the man or woman who has done this evil to your city gate and stone that person to death." If Jean Dixon had been alive in the time of Israel, they would have stoned her to death! That's how strong the word of God speaks against anything connected with the worship of or seeking to know the revelation of some divine mind through the sun, the moon, or the stars of heaven! It was an offense that was detestable to God. And I would hasten to add that anything that used to be detestable to God is still detestable to God. Whatever was detestable to His character is still detestable to His character because His character has not changed one bit! And that's a very clear word. I would add to that Isaiah 47:12-15. Here God was particularly judging the Babylonians who were strongly involved in this. "Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those star-gazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Here are no coals to warm anyone; here is no fire to sit by. That is all they can do for you - these you have labored with and trafficked with since childhood. Each of them goes on in his error; there is not one that can save you." God is saying that they are going to be so consumed by the fire that they won't even be worth a coal to warm over. They are going to go up fast in smoke. That's God's attitude toward astrology, star gazing, monthly predictions. That's fairly clear! No Christian has any business in any sense, under any circumstance fooling around with that. It simply opens your mind to demonic suggestions. And if you listen to that suggestion, it isn't that the horoscopes will tell you what you're like, they will simply make you into what they want you to be. People who listen to astrologists begin to pattern their life after what he/she says and, literally, they become transformed into their horoscope. There are others Scriptures, such as in Acts 7:41-43 where it mentions the tabernacle of Molech and the star of their god, Rephan. This is the worship of Saturn and it is again mentioning the worship of the stars. So this is something that is completely and totally forbidden in the Word of God. And the reason is the stars can't tell your future, they can't tell your present, NO WAY! The revelation of God alone is involved in telling the truth. That's just a demonic way to capture the fancy of people so the demons can persuade them toward a certain behavior. In Daniel 1:20 it says, "In all matters of wisdom and understanding, the king of Babylon inquired of them and found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers in his whole kingdom." When he consulted God's people he found them TEN times better, and that's an understatement. Chapter 2 talks more about the astrologers and the sorcerers and shows that they were inadequate, they were in error, they were helpless, and they were hopeless. So, no Christian is to have anything to do with them at any time at all! Don't even fool with that. Don't even play around with it. It just opens up an avenue for Satan to influence you. There are many more scriptures about this topic but I'm sure you get the point. Even though it might seem innocent enough, I stir clear of it. While this might seem legalistic, I am very wary of anything that takes the place of God's direction for our lives. God is our guidance and not His creation. Allen"

GOD's PLAN OF SALVATION

The Bible Says: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness: and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation....For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:9,10 & 13.
Simple Prayer of Salvation: " Dear Jesus, I believe in You. I believe You are the Son of God, that You died for my sins, and that You were buried and rose again. I am sorry for my sins, forgive me and come into my heart as my Lord and Saviour. Take charge of my life and make me the way You want me to be. I confess You now as my Lord and Saviour. Thank you, Jesus! In Jesus' Name amen."

All religions lead to Heaven?

I hear someone say from time to time "All religions lead to Heaven". I have recently heard this from a notable billionaire talk show host, who has even written a book about it. Well, I have to disagree. The Holy Bible teaches us that no one will enter The Kingdom of Heaven except through Jesus.
Let me ask these questions. Did Buddha die on the cross for our sins? Did Mohammad shed his blood for our redemption?
We are saved by Grace alone, with Faith alone, through Jesus Christ alone. Anything else is a man made cult religion.

Just a thought on simple steps to be a Disciple of Jesus

All of Jesus disciples were Christians, but are all Christians disciples. It is up to those of us who are believers in the grace of Jesus to evangelize and disciple. Some people are afraid or embarrassed to proclaim their faith. Don't be. Try this as an easy way to proclaim your love and faith. I do this and I get favorable reactions even from strangers. When you are checking out at a store for instance and the clerk hands you the receipt and says "thank you for shopping with us", simply look them in the eye and say thank you and God bless you. I love the look I get. It has always been a warm look of amazement and thanks, even if by reasons of store policy political correctness they can not respond in kind. I have had some who did respond with "God bless you too". Another way to to spread your faith is when someone is telling you their problems or expressing their frustrations about something going on in their life, simply give them with a warm tender loving concerned look and tell them "I will pray for you". I have never gotten a bad reaction to either one of these ideas. If I ever do I would just tell them "God bless you anyway" or "I will still pray for you anyway". Then be sure to include them in your prayers.
 Never be afraid to confess your love for Jesus Christ. The forces of Satan which are all around are never afraid to to try to lead you astray. Just look around at the world today and what is being spewed out on TV shows and in the news.
We are instructed to spread the Word of the Bible in several places in the Bible, for one is Matthew 28: 19-20.
 It is simple things like this I think can be done to witness to people without a sermon and to overcome any fears you have, which you should not have. Be ready in case they ask for more information. Study the Word. God Bless You.
